American Festival for the Arts (AFA) is a non-profit music education and concert presenting organization based in Houston. Founded in 1993, AFA was inspired by the desire to enhance the future of American culture and music by providing nationally competitive, community-based educational opportunities of lasting impact for youth thereby encouraging the realization of students' full potential and by broadening the audience for both American and classic musical repertory.

Our summer music camps and workshops provide students and teachers with the opportunities to interact with the world-class musicians who comprise the faculty in the Baylor School of Music. Our goal is to continue to provide such experiences for musical and personal growth. Participation in the Baylor University Summer Music Camps encompasses performance experiences. From large ensembles to chamber music, our camps offer a wide spectrum of musical training. Whether you are an aspiring middle school instrumentalist or an accomplished professional, you will discover new challenges to further your growth as a musician. Summer camp participants stay in the Baylor residence halls and eat all meals in university dining halls. Musical and recreational activities are balanced to peak students' interests and provide them with sufficient leisure time. Participants will meet hundreds of students from the state and participate in activities such as swimming, movies, and more.

Summer Music Institute in strings, voice, and winds is for serious high school musicians (audition tape required). The program includes private lessons, chamber music. music theory, solfege, Institute Singers, Chamber Orchestra and visits to Blossom Music Center to hear The Cleveland Orchestra and Ohio Light Opera. Students study and perform under the guidance of artistic director and assistant director of the Conservatory Bryan Bowser, faculty and guest artists include members of The Cleveland Orchestra and the faculty of B-W''s Conservatory of Music.

The Domaine Forget is located among the rolling hills of Saint-Irénée 90 minutes northeast of Québec City on a vast historical property overlooking the St. Lawrence River. Founded in 1978, the Academy has since become an important centre for music and dance training bringing together pedagogues and students from around the world. More than 120 artists and 600 students are in residence at the Domaine Forget during the summer, making it one of the most significant summer academies in Canada. In 1996, the Domaine Forget inaugurated a 604-seat concert hall, the Salle Françoys-Bernier, named in honour of its founder. Designed specifically for musical performance, the hall possesses outstanding acoustics. The Domaine Forget is an ideal meeting ground of different musical traditions and cultures, an unforgettable stepping-stone in one’s artistic development.

ISYM is a comprehensive and intensive program of music instruction for student musicians. It is held on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

 For the past 56 years, Illinois Summer Youth Music has enrolled more than one thousand students annually. Many are now performing in major symphony orchestras and other professional ensembles. A significant number are successful teachers, engineers, scientists, lawyers, doctors, and business executives. ISYM has as its objectives to develop musical skills, and to improve the understanding and appreciation of music.

The 18 different camps are designed to challenge musicians of varying degrees in musical skills and development. Faculty for ISYM are carefully selected and include those who understand both the developmental process and the needs of young student musicians.

For six weeks each summer, the Killington Music Festival brings together aspiring young musicians and a nurturing, internationally accomplished faculty. Luzerne Music Center - click HERE

Luzerne Music Center offers an international summer music camp program for student instrumentalists, vocalists, composers and conductors ages 11 through 18.  Its curriculum includes private lessons, student chamber and large ensemble instruction, Symphony Orchestra experience and attendance to weekly faculty recitals and professional concerts.  Luzerne Music Center maintains special relationships with the Philadelphia Orchestra and New York City Ballet, and takes its students to their performances at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center and Spa Little Theatre on a weekly basis. In addition, Philadelphia Orchestra members present Master Classes for all instruments on the Luzerne Music Center's campus during Senior Session. The Center is also home to the Luzerne Chamber Music Festival, which features professional artists from the Luzerne Chamber Players, members of the Philadelphia Orchestra and other renowned chamber artists from the U.S. and abroad. All students are required to attend these performances.

Madeline Island Music Camp, a nonprofit educational corporation, provides chamber music training and performance for talented young musicians in a structured, residential environment. The Madeline Island Music Camp was founded in 1985 as a one-week chamber music program for twenty students from Minnesota. Today the Music Camp conducts a four-week program for forty-eight talented string players and pianists who come from across the country and around the world to study chamber music with a distinguished faculty and resident string quartets. In addition the Music Camp conducts a one-week program for winds.

The Mimir Chamber Music Festival, named for the Norse god of wisdom, features outstanding artists from the world’s leading orchestras and music schools who share a love for chamber music.  Mimir is the premiere Festival in the South Central United States dedicated exclusively to the study and performance of chamber music. Artists are selected not only for their superb performing skills, but also for their ability to teach. Throughout the two-week Festival, guest artists hold master classes for aspiring pre-professional musicians, selected for participation through a rigorous audition process. In the evenings, guest artists present a series of five exciting and distinctly different musical performances.

The National High School Music Institute presents an inside look at collegiate level music study and music as a career. With a renowned faculty, numerous performance ensembles, and a myriad of classes, the Institute offers an ideally challenging summer to the serious high school musician.

students will enjoy chamber music coaching, private lessons and master classes, in addition to classes in conducting, music theory and history. They will also have the opportunity to perform in chamber music and orchestra concerts. The string faculty is drawn from Northwestern University, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and other distinguished performers and pedagogue.

The Sewanee Summer Music Festival, at The University of the South, in Sewanee, Tennessee, is an internationally acclaimed summer festival which combines a five week program for advanced music students and a professional concert series.

The Festival was established in 1957 to provide a comprehensive training program emphasizing performance experience. Sewanee not only prepares students for the challenges professional musicians must meet, but also makes them lifetime lovers of music.

Each summer, more than 200 aspiring young musicians from all over the United States and abroad join more than fifty teachers, performers, and internationally recognized guest artists to create a musical community in Sewanee. Within this community, students receive musical training of the highest caliber and draw from the wealth of experience of a distinguished faculty.

Texas Music Festival - The mission of the Texas Music Festival is to prepare college aged and young professional musicians for careers in music through a four-week intensive summer orchestral training program. The Immanuel and Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival was founded in 1990 to provide young professional musicians with a challenging musical environment in which to develop skills in orchestral, chamber music, and solo performance. The four-week orchestral fellowship program on the University of Houston campus is guided by distinguished artists from the Moores School of music faculty, members of the Houston Symphony, and internationally recognized guests.

Summer String Camp - July 15-20, 2008 - The UTA Summer Strings Camp strives to provide each student an opportunity to work with and learn from the highest quality instructional faculty from around the State of Texas. It is our desire that each student grow musically and personally while at the same time enjoy all the fun and excitement of summer camp life. A fun and enriching curriculum of string orchestra rehearsals, sectionals, electives, All State Orchestra Masterclasses, and electives will be taught by outstanding high school and junior high/middle school orchestra directors from across the state. Students will participate in one of six string orchestras based on an audition and perform a Final Concert on the last evening. The camp is open to students who have had at least one year of instruction on a string instrument up to high school seniors in Fall, 2007.

Texas Cello Academy & Festival - August 4-8, 2008 - The Texas Cello Academy and Festival (TCA) is an annual week-long summer celebration focused entirely on the cello and its repertoire.  The Texas Cello Academy, Senior (ages 13 - adult), involves daily classes for participants concentrating on cello technique, cello performance, care and maintenance of the cello, and body awareness through Alexander Technique. The Festival includes evening performances:  an annual Faculty Recital, a student Chamber Ensemble Recital, a guest recital, and the Final Festival Concert which includes solo performances by the TCA Performance Seminar participants, and the Cello Orchestra comprised of all participating cellists.   The camp now fills to capacity, so interested prospective participants are urged to send in applications early!  We look forward to working with you in August 2008!
